E o grande vencedor deste Oscar 2010 foi "Guerra ao terror", de Kathryn Bigelow. O filme recebeu, além de outros 4 Oscars, os dois mais aguardados da noite, o de melhor direção e melhor filme. "Avatar", de James Cameron, que também era um dos favoritos, ficou com 3 estatuetas.

O prêmio de melhor atriz ficou para Sandra Bullock, que não estava confiante na sua vitória. Jeff Bridges venceu como o melhor ator por "Coração louco".
